How to scan a wine label in Enolisa: step-by-step tutorial

Enolisa features an AI-powered label scanning system (AI-Lisa) that analyzes photos of wine labels and auto-fills the registration form.

This page is a practical tutorial. If you need an overview of capabilities, limitations, and plans, read Wine label scanner app: overview.

Before you start

  • Use a bottle with a clean, readable label.
  • Make sure you have enough light and stable focus.
  • Keep your internet connection active for processing.

Step 1: Access the Scanner

  1. Go to "My Cellar" and tap the "+" button to add a new wine.
  2. At the top of the form you'll see the search and scan section.
  3. Tap the circular button with camera icon next to the search field.
  4. The camera interface will open.

Step 2: Photograph the Front Label (Required)

  1. Point the camera at the main (front) label of the wine.
  2. Frame the label within the indicated area on screen.
  3. The label should be well-lit and in focus.
  4. Tap the capture button to take the photo.
  5. You'll see a message indicating "Front label photo".

Step 3: Photograph the Back Label (Optional but Recommended)

  1. After capturing the front, the app will offer to capture the back label.
  2. The back label provides additional information: origin, winery, grapes, producer notes, alcohol content.
  3. Frame the back label and capture.
  4. If you don't want to add it, you can skip this step.

Step 4: AI Processing

  1. After capturing the images, the app will show an "Analyzing image..." indicator.
  2. The photos are sent to Enolisa servers where AI-Lisa extracts the information.
  3. This process usually takes a few seconds.

Step 5: Review and Auto-fill

Once the images are processed, the form auto-fills with detected data:

  • Wine name
  • Winery
  • Grape varieties
  • Vintage
  • Country of origin
  • Appellation
  • Alcohol content
  • Wine type (red, white, etc.)

Always review the information before saving:

  • The AI may make reading errors.
  • Some fields may remain empty if not detected on the label.
  • You can manually correct or complete any field.

Complete missing data (price, place of purchase, notes) and tap "Save Wine" to finish.

Tips for Best Results

  • Good lighting: Avoid shadows and reflections on the label.
  • Correct focus: Make sure text is readable before capturing.
  • Complete label: Try to include the entire label in the frame.
  • Back label: Whenever possible, include the back label for more information.

Troubleshooting

"Label scanning is temporarily disabled"

  • This feature may be occasionally disabled for maintenance. Try again later.

"You've reached the limit of available scans"

  • You've exhausted your monthly quota. Buy a scan pack or wait for next month.

AI didn't detect information correctly

  • Review and manually correct fields.
  • Consider taking new photos with better lighting.
  • Some artistic or handwritten labels are difficult to read automatically.
